The summer of 1929. The regulars from Copenhagen are back at Andersens Badehotel by the North Sea. Wholesaler Madsen's daughter Amanda is also arriving after a trip abroad, which was arranged by her parents to get her away from an unfortunate romantic connection. The maid Fie looks forward to Amanda's arrival with mixed feelings.
