Doktor je Pán času: 900 ročný mimozemšťan s dvomi srdciami, člen nadanej civilizácie ktorá ovládla cestovanie časom. Preto môže pomocou TARDIS cestovať naprieč priestorom a časom celého vesmíru a snažiť sa vyriešiť všemožné záhady, ktoré často spôsobia nemalé problémy. Stretáva sa s mimozemšťanmi rôznych civilizácií, ktorí nie vždy sú k nemu priateľský.
