中央情報局（CIA）の秘密作戦遂行のために、「悪魔的天才」科学者モフェットによって10億ドルの費用と20年の歳月をかけ開発された“マッハ1・プラス・アタック・ヘリコプター”「エアーウルフ」。軍関係者や連邦議会議員を招いて行なわれた展示飛行の最中に、招待者の一人に働きを正当に評価されていないと思い込んだ、当のモフェット自身がエアーウルフで招待者たちを攻撃。モフェットはエアーウルフと共にリビアへ逃亡した。開発計画の責任者のCIA特別作戦部長アークエンジェルは、敏腕パイロットで今は山荘で暮らすストリングフェロー・ホークにエアーウルフの奪還を要請。ホークは友人のドミニク・サンティーニと共に、北アフリカに潜入、モフェットと対決し、エアーウルフの奪還に成功する。しかしホークはエアーウルフをアメリカのネバダ砂漠へと隠匿する。ホークはエアーウルフの返還条件として、ベトナム戦争で行方不明となった、兄のセント・ジョンの捜索を要求。アークエンジェルは要求を受け入れる代わりに、エアーウルフのCIAへの作戦協力を要請。かくしてCIAの要請を受け、エアーウルフは世界の空を駆けめぐるのであった。 themoviedb
